Suggestions for Long Distance Relationships

1. Video Chat!
Keep your relationship tight by keeping in touch. Video chatting is different than a phone call because you get to see the person's reaction and nonverbal cues. Consider setting up dates for your video chats. I suggest video chatting at least once a week.
2. Watch TV together
Watching something together has to be one of my favorite activities with Donny. If both of you have a Netflix account, you can use the program Showgoers for Netflix and it will link both Netflix accounts so you two can watch the same thing at the same time. Donny and I like to mix suggestions 1 & 2. We get Skype going and then use Showgoers to watch the movie together and still be able to video chat.

3. Send each other small gifts
Send your significant other (S/O) gifts! They don't have to be large, expensive gifts. Anything that can say, "I am thinking of you" will do. Donny likes to send me snack packages, he got me a subscription for them. Every two weeks I get a small reminder of how he feels towards me. I like buying him clothes. Who doesn't love clothes, right? Consider sending your S/O something thoughtful. Remember, it doesn't have to be expensive. Of course... expensive gifts are more than welcome!
4. Read together
If you like reading, find a book you two can read together. Something that is of interest to both of you. Read a chapter a week. On the days when you read a chapter try to alternate paragraphs. This will keep the reading fun and both of you awake.
5. Memes, Memes, Memes!
I doubt you have enough money to send a gift over to your loved one every single time you think of them. If you do, by all means go ahead and do so. But if you are like us, Donny and I, memes can do the trick. A funny picture or an inspiring video can just be the reminder your S/O needs. If you find something that you find funny, do not hesitate to send it over, your S/O will appreciate the laugh!
